When it comes to police and the public, the 2 don’t seem alien to each other, they are alien to each other. Believe it or not, cops go out of their way to avoid civilians in there personal lives, and if you’re a civilian, you probably avoid cops just the same, but why. A couple of months ago I was in downtown Boston eating lunch, watching people come and go, there was a homeless man I know  sitting up against a wall just watching people, and one of the BPD bike cops I shoot the breeze with occasionally just hanging out, helping with the flow of people, occasionally chatting some one up. As I’m sitting there, this stunning, and I mean like beautiful, woman crosses the intersection up the road, and I’m a guy so yea I’m looking. Anyhow, I watched the woman (who eventually went into the subway …sigh) pass by the Boston bike cop, and she totally looked the other away when she was about 5 feet from him, she kept walking down the road and passed by the homeless guy who was sitting up against the wall about 20 feet down from where the cop was standing, and she did the same exact thing, she looked away. I was blown away by what I saw. I made a point of watching people for about a half hour in this same spot about once a week since then, I found that most people who were walking alone did the same thing as the woman I just mentioned, when they passed by the homeless guy, they looked away, when they passed by the cop, they looked away, it left me wondering why, especially when most people see or pass by a cop once a day at some point. So, I have a question, and I have to ask all 15,000 of our followers on facebook and twitter. How many minutes in the past 10 years of your life have you spent talking to a cop, for any reason, also give us at least one reason why you chatted up the cop, or avoided them.
